New Media Major

New Media at William Penn University is a hands-on program that prepares students for careers in filmmaking, game design, sports production, video production, and visual communication. With a curriculum rooted in real-world experience, students collaborate with industry professionals in dynamic media environments. Our unique cohort system accelerates coursework, allowing students to focus on practical, immersive learning. Students can tailor their education by choosing between two emphases: Film & Video Production or Content Creation & Digital Design. Film and Video Production Emphasis

Trains students in media writing, film analysis, and production techniques for careers in film and video.

The Film and Video Production Emphasis requires a total of 21 credits. Students must complete courses such as Media Writing, Introduction to Film Studies, Production III, and Production IV, each contributing 3 credits. Additionally, students must take nine credit hours from various disciplines, including Art, English, Theatre, Music, or additional Communication courses. These courses offer a comprehensive foundation in film and video production, equipping students with the skills needed for this emphasis.

Digital Design/Content Creation Emphasis

Focuses on skills in social media marketing, design, and content creation for digital platforms.

The Digital Design/Content Creation Emphasis requires a total of 21 credits. Students must complete courses such as Social Media Marketing, Three-Dimensional Design, Two-Dimensional Design, and Rhetoric and Technology, each contributing 3 credits. Additionally, students must take nine credit hours from various disciplines, including Art, English, Theatre, Music, or additional Communication/New Media courses. These courses provide a well-rounded foundation in digital design and content creation, ensuring students develop the necessary skills for the emphasis.

Max Leonida

At William Penn University, students learn from acclaimed filmmaker Max Leonida, the Film Artist-in-Residence. With award-winning films and international festival recognition, he brings invaluable industry expertise to the classroom.

Brant Bollman

At William Penn University, students learn from Brant Bollman, a dynamic artist, activist, and educator who brings creativity to both the stage and digital media. As Director of Theatre Arts, he leads productions and creates giant puppets for community events, while also teaching graphic design and other courses in the New Media program. Through his work, Bollman inspires students to harness the power of art for storytelling and social change.
