Kinesiology

The Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology program focuses on the science of human movement and the promotion of physical activity across diverse populations. This interdisciplinary degree equips students with the knowledge and skills to understand the mechanics of movement, the benefits of physical activity, and strategies to lead individuals and communities in adopting healthy, active lifestyles.

Students will explore key areas such as community health, exercise physiology, motor behavior, and sports leadership, while gaining practical experience in promoting wellness, coaching, and designing fitness programs. Through hands-on learning and leadership development, graduates will be prepared for careers in health and wellness, fitness training, coaching, and community recreation, or for further study in related fields such as athletic training, community wellness and sport management.

The Kinesiology Program

A degree in Kinesiology allows students to explore human movement and gain a better in-depth understanding of how the human body works.  They learn how movement and function impact our individual health, and how physical activity and sport benefit our communities.

Internships are designed to help students gain an understanding of professional experience. Professors encourage students to pursue internships so they can apply classroom and experimental knowledge to real world activity. WPU Kinesiology students have obtained internships with the following companies:

  • Kinetic Edge Physical Therapy
  • Mahaska County YMCA

The Kinesiology Club brings together students from Sport Management, Exercise Science, Wellness and Recreation, and Kinesiology majors to promote professional development, and active engagement in health, sport, and wellness-related fields. Club leaders hold monthly meetings and create fun and engaging activities for WPU students and the Oskaloosa Community.
