Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
William Penn Sports Medicine Work Study Position Description

Work Study individuals will be under the direct visual supervision of a licensed and certified Athletic Trainer.

Work Study individuals are expected to follow the William Penn University Sports Medicine Department Intern and Work Study policies and procedures manual. These rules include but are not limited to:

Abide by the Iowa Department of Public Health Board of Athletic Training regulations and NATA position statement for high school athletic training student aides
Regular attendance as discussed by the student and the Athletic Trainer
Proper dress as discussed by the student and Athletic Trainer
Appropriate and suitable behavior both inside and outside the athletic training room

Iowa State law states that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES is an athletic training student
aide to evaluate and/or treat injuries. Under the direction and supervision of the Certified Athletic Trainer, the work study individual can complete the following tasks as it pertains to athletic training:

Maintenance of the hydration stations (i.e. Filling coolers and water bottles with ice and water, and cleaning of the equipment after use)
Cleaning of the athletic training facility
Laundry
Assistance with administering ice to athletes
Assistance with set up for game days and practices

*Please note that these duties and skills may only be completed and utilized if under the DIRECT
SUPERVISION of the Athletic Trainer. William Penn University, nor its Department of Sports Medicine, will be held liable for Sports Medicine work study individuals that practice beyond what they have been approved to do. The certifications and state licensure of the site Certified Athletic Trainer can and will likely be revoked if they are found in breach of the law by allowing interns to perform skills that they are not educated enough to and not authorized by the IA Board of Public Health to do.

Required Qualifications:
Preferably someone who is interested in pursuing an athletic training education following WPU.
Someone who is good at communication and able to complete tasks without being asked daily.
Work Schedule–Days & Times
Monday through Friday afternoons 2-6 pm. Occasionally weekend hours may be available.
