WPU to Host Jazz Academy for Students featuring New York City Jazz Artists

09/20/2019

(OSKALOOSA, Iowa) – William Penn University is hosting a Jazz Academy in October. The academy allows you to select from one of three days to attend on October 7, 8, or 9, 2019. Each day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and wrap up with a performance at the George Daily Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

Ray Blue, internationally renowned saxophonist, and Hill Greene, bassist extraordinaire, are coming from New York City to William Penn University to show students how to learn, play, and love jazz. The day-long workshop will give all students a “toolbox” of knowledge they can use to hone their skills. A hands-on approach will help students understand jazz improvisation with a step-by-step explanation of how it all works. Each student will receive a book containing all of the materials experienced during the workshop.

“We are excited to bring Ray Blue and Hill Greene, two truly outstanding jazz professionals, to our campus! The students will be in for an amazing experience as they work with and learn from them and WPU students and staff,” said Scott Cressley, WPU Assistant Teaching Professor of Music.

Everyone is guaranteed to leave more confident, more proficient, and excited for the coming jazz season!
