William Penn University Recognizes Faculty Achievements in Promotion and Tenure

William Penn University is proud to announce the advancement in rank of three distinguished faculty members and the approval of one tenure request, recognizing their academic contributions, commitment to students, and dedication to the mission of the institution.

Wilton Wright, PhD, has been promoted from Assistant Professor of English to Associate Professor of English. Dr. Wright joined the university in 2019 and has since made significant contributions to the English department through innovative teaching, mentorship, and scholarship. His work has helped strengthen the liberal arts curriculum and student engagement in the humanities.

Michael Johnston, PhD, has advanced from Assistant Professor of Sociology to Associate Professor of Sociology. Hired in 2013, Dr. Johnston is one of the longest-serving faculty members among those promoted this year. He has played an essential role in shaping the sociology program and continues to provide leadership in interdisciplinary studies and community-focused research.

Melissa Schettler, PhD, has been promoted from Assistant Professor of Education to Associate Professor of Education and has also been granted tenure. Since joining the university in 2018, Dr. Schettler has earned widespread respect from colleagues and students alike for her teaching excellence and unwavering commitment to student success. Her student evaluations were a notable factor in her tenure approval, with comments highlighting her dedication:
“Very reliable and easy to communicate with outside of class,”
“One of those professors who go above and beyond for her students,”
“Best teacher ever,” and
“She is really encouraging and is willing to take extra time to help her students with anything.”

These advancements reflect William Penn University’s ongoing investment in faculty development and academic excellence. The university congratulates Dr. Wright, Dr. Johnston, and Dr. Schettler on their well-deserved achievements and looks forward to their continued contributions to the William Penn community.
