William Penn University Fine Arts Department Presents ‘Theory of Relativity’ Musical

The William Penn University Fine Arts Department will present “Theory of Relativity” on Thursday, February 23, Friday, February 24, and Saturday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Edwin McGrew Fine Arts Center on the Oskaloosa campus. Written in 2015, the musical was authored by Brian Hill and Neil Bartram, who were commissioned to create a work for college actors.

“We wanted to write something that would offer them a chance to perform age-appropriate and accessible material,” they said. The authors interviewed a number of college age students and compiled their stories and each story contained “a common thread of community and the uncertainty that comes with their ever-expanding worlds.”

The William Penn University musical features the talents of students Amanda Nantz, Tipton, Iowa; Owen Grubb, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Joe Criscuolo, Pella, Iowa; Beth Lobberecht, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Noelle Luebbers, Moberly, Missouri; Juliana Bunnell, Centerville, Iowa, and Ben Akers, Oskaloosa, Iowa.

“With a small cast, we have had the time to reflect on the stories each character relates and often times we have shared the same feelings and experiences,” stated Anita Meinert, director. “The songs have catchy rhythms and melodies that really allow the singer to concentrate on the message of the lyrics.”

Presented with permission from Music Theatre International (MTI), the performances are open to the public. There is no admission charge.  Please join William Penn University in the Edwin McGrew Fine Arts Center as students present “Theory of Relativity” February 23–25 at 7:00 p.m.
