Appointment of Associate Deans

09/08/2025

William Penn University is proud to announce several key promotions that mark a strategic investment in leadership, innovation, and student-centered growth. Four respected faculty members—Javin Sword, Dr. Samantha Allen Wright, Amy Andreassen, and Dr. Jennifer Crull—have been appointed to Associate Dean roles, each bringing unique strengths to the university’s evolving academic landscape. Dean Noel Stahle approached these appointments with careful consideration, selecting individuals he believes will complement his leadership and strengthen the university as a whole. “Throughout my time at Penn, I’ve looked for people who I think could complement my work—who have different skill sets than me, who are trustworthy, and those who are open to difficult conversations,” he explained.

Javin Sword, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, has been named Associate Dean of Digital Initiatives. “Stepping into the role of Associate Dean for Digital Initiatives is both an honor and a responsibility,” Sword said. “Personally, it allows me to merge my passion for teaching and innovation with a broader vision for how technology, especially AI, can transform
education.” Known for his practical, empowering approach to digital transformation, Dr. Sword will lead efforts to integrate emerging technologies across campus and enhance both operational efficiency and classroom engagement.

Dr. Samantha Allen Wright, Associate Professor of English and Co-Chair of the New Media Division, now serves as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. A strong advocate for communication and collaboration, Dr. Allen Wright is committed to streamlining internal processes while staying closely connected to students. “My role is to listen and help,” she said. “Whether students need help with a specific problem or just want someone to talk to about their academics or college life, my door is open. This is what I’m most passionate about”.

Amy Andreassen, Instructor of Education, has been appointed Associate Dean for Operations.
With decades of experience in educational administration, Andreassen brings strategic vision
and a deeply personal connection to William Penn. “Every decision should be viewed through
a student-centered lens,” she shared. “By supporting our faculty and staff effectively, we create
optimal conditions for student learning and development”.

Dr. Jennifer Crull, Associate Professor of Business and Co-Chair of the Business Division, has been promoted to Associate Dean for Student Learning and Assessment. Her appointment reflects a broader shift in higher education—one that emphasizes not only what is taught, but what is learned. As Dean Stahle explained, “Thirty years ago, colleges were about inputs, meaning faculty teaching. Now, it’s about output, what our students are learning. How do we measure learning? Through assessment.” Dr. Crull will lead the university’s efforts to foster a culture of evidence-based learning and academic accountability.

Reflecting further on the appointments, Dean Stahle added, “The goal and vision is to extend the outreach and reputation of the William Penn community.” He praised each leader’s strengths—calling Amy “a force,” Sam “a keeper,” Jennifer “reliable and efficient,” and Javin a vital contributor to the mission of ensuring the university remains relevant through evolving technology.

Together, these leaders reflect William Penn University’s ongoing commitment to excellence, collaboration, and meaningful student outcomes—today and for generations to come.
