James A. North, Ph.D.

Professor of Biochemistry

Dr. James North has been a member of the Health and Life Sciences faculty since 2000. He works individually with his students by setting up Sunday night study sessions before Organic Chemistry tests, taking groups of students to the Heartland Global Health Consortium (HGHC) conference in October, and helping Biology Practicum students present their research at the Student Research and Creative Arts Symposium. He feels that all the Health and Life Sciences faculty have an incredible amount of commitment, and it is clear how willing they are to go the extra mile for their students.

Although his specialization is chemistry, he is involved in many diverse research projects which include Pneumocystis jirovecii characterization and anticancer drug interactions in murine cells. His other specific interests are topics such as polyunsaturated fatty acid metabolism in cancerous cells, intracellular signaling, mammoth digging, and the biology associated with evolution.
