Description of Duties and Responsibilities: 

Provide a safe and fun environment for elementary school students before and after the school day.


Assists in operating an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for children enrolled in the Mahaska County YMCA Before or After School Programs. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The School Age Associate is accountable for complying with Iowa Department of Human Service licensing standards and Mahaska County YMCA policies and procedures.

1. Supervises the children, classroom, and activities.
2. Assist with preparations for daily activities
3. Interact appropriately with the children, involving them in structured, age appropriate activities, operating with the best interest of the child in mind.
4. Follow and enforce program and organization policies as well as licensing standards
5. Works collaboratively and effectively with all YMCA staff to ensure an exemplary classroom and workplace environment.
6. Serve as role model to all

Required Qualifications: 

  1. Must be at least 17 years old, have some direct childcare experience and basic knowledge of children and child development.
2. Must submit to background check, and participate in new staff orientation process.
3. Ability to plan, organize, and implement developmentally appropriate program activities
4. Promotes the Y mission and core values in their behavior and in the development of children’s programs

Work Schedule (Days & Times): 

M-F 6 AM-8 AM and/or 3-6 PM, Student workers can work mornings, afternoons, or a combination of both. Flexible on which days of the week.

Hourly Wage: $9.00

Employment Start Date and Employment End Date: August 23, 2021-April 29, 2022
