This event will be held in the MTC on the William Penn University campus in Oskaloosa, IA on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Rachelle will be signing books at 5:30 PM and begin her presentation at 6:00 PM.

You may have heard of Buxton, Iowa the coal mining town established in 1900 where five thousand African Americans and Caucasians lived, worked, and attended school together. But do you know how and why the town was created? Come learn about the corporations, men, and women who made Buxton one of the most amazing towns in the nation. Using photos and audio clips, Rachelle Chase will share the fascinating events that created this unique community, its notable residents, and what made it disappear. Rachelle Chase is the author of Lost Buxton (2017) and Creating the Black Utopia of Buxton, Iowa (January 2019), as well as a Sr. Business Analyst and model. She lives in Ottumwa, IA.

This event is free to attend and is open to the general public.
