SUMMARY:Alumni Drive-In Movie Night
DESCRIPTION:We have secured the right to show “The Final Season” as the Drive In Movie on May 29th in the MTC parking lot on the campus of William Penn University. The movie will begin at 8:00 pm. As a special feature\, Jim Van Scoyoc (’65) will introduce the film at 7:30 pm. \nThe sports drama film\, The Final Season\, features the trials and tribulations of the town of Norway\, Iowa as they faced school closure and consolidation. The high school’s baseball team which serves as the identity of the community\, faces the challenge of winning it’s 20th Iowa state baseball championship without its legendary coach Jim Van Scoyoc at the helm during the final season in 1991.\nJim Van Scoyoc competed in basketball and baseball at William Penn College before beginning his teaching and coaching career. Following a two-year stint at Amana High School (IA)\, Van Scoyoc moved onto coach at Norway High School. During his tenure at Norway High School\, Van Scoyoc would win 12 state baseball championships\, and was named the national high school baseball coach of the year in 1983. Tiny Norway High School would regularly defeat large high schools in baseball and produced four major league baseball players.
