SUMMARY:Film Screening and Poetry Performance
DESCRIPTION:The Heritage and Culture Committee at William Penn University is pleased to invite students\, faculty\, staff\, and the broader community to a compelling evening featuring spoken word poet Caleb Rainey and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Nik Heftman. This event will include a poetry performance\, a film screening\, and a panel discussion\, all centered around themes of race\, identity\, and the power of artistic expression in fostering meaningful dialogue. \nA highlight of the evening will be the screening of The Negro Artist (2025)\, a documentary-style film that explores the life and work of Caleb Rainey and features scenes with William Penn students. Through this film\, attendees will gain insight into the intersections of art and social justice\, as well as the impact of storytelling in shaping cultural narratives. \nCaleb Rainey\, known professionally as The Negro Artist\, is a distinguished spoken word poet whose work challenges perceptions of race and systemic inequality. His poetry provides a powerful platform for reflection and discussion. Nik Heftman\, an accomplished journalist and founder of The Seven Times video production company\, brings a unique perspective as a filmmaker dedicated to amplifying the voices of Black entrepreneurs and communities across the United States. \nThis event aligns with William Penn University’s mission to empower students as peace-makers\, community builders\, and advocates for equality. Through the lens of poetry and film\, Caleb and Nik will offer valuable insights and engage the audience in a thought-provoking discussion on race relations and the arts.
