Description of Duties and Responsibilities: 

Supervise children and develop activities to entertain them while their adults are working out.

  • Assists in providing a quality environment in Child Watch taking into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the YMCA
  • Be responsible for the safety of the children at all times and to carry out emergency procedures when necessary
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings under the direction of the Director
  • Adheres to and maintains the cleaning schedule
  • Continually interacts with the children when in room and parents as they enter and leave the Child Watch area (includes greeting parents immediately upon their arrival)
  • Puts safety first in all activities by using developmentally appropriate activities at all times
  • Professionally handles any conflict or emergency situations that may arise with members or staff
  • Provides positive interaction with children, parents, staff using the core values as guidelines
  • Monitors usage of the sign in/sign out sheets, ensuring all parents are signing in and out
  • Shows flexibility in working where needed as numbers of children fluctuate
  • Reports all concerns or problems to Supervisor, not other employees
  • Anything deemed necessary by the Director in regards to the position

Required Qualifications: Must be able to pass a background check. Must be CPR certified in the first 6 months – the YMCA will provide the training.

  • Ability to visibly observe children, even when distracted by noise and activity
  • Stand and sit for extended periods of time
  • Lift up to 40 lbs., transport equipment, service snacks, etc.
  • Bend at the waist, knees and kneel
  • Walk up and down 20-30 steps
  • Demonstrate and lead activities
  • Communicate effectively with parents and children
  • Reason, solve problems, make sound decisions even while distracted by noise and activities
  • Observe and promote safety and security procedures
  • Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively

Work Schedule (Days & Times): Child Watch hours are M-TH 8:30-noon and 4-8 PM and Friday 8:30-noon

Hourly Wage: $9.00

Employment Start Date and Employment End Date: August 23, 2021-April 29, 2022
