All Alumni Picnic at the George Daily Pavilion
Alumni and staff are invited to join us for a catered picnic at the George Daily Pavilion at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 12. Featured reunion classes of 1958, 1968, 1978, 1988, 1998, and 2008. The Delta Beta Phi Fraternity is celebrating their 50th Anniversary, while the Pi Gamma Xi Sorority celebrates their 45th Anniversary. In addition, the 2005-2008 men’s basketball squads will celebrate the reunion of Coach John Henry’s Conference Championship basketball teams.
In case of inclement weather, the activities will be held in the Chief Mahaska Room in the Dana M. Atkins Memorial Union.
Ray Blue Jazz Concert
Ray Blue graduated from William Penn University in 1972 and will be performing live during this year’s Homecoming festivities. Ray Blue’s music can be described as a fusion of straight ahead jazz and rhythmic groove. Ray is a New York bred saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator who performs internationally.
Ray Blue was a cast member of the “Ray Charles Show” which toured in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy from 2008 to 2010. In addition, Ray Blue has shared the stage with John Gilmore, Dr. Art Davis, Benny Powell, Eddie Henderson, Kirk Lightsey, Charlie Persip Super Band, Clifford Adams, Wycliff Gordon, Bernard Purdie, Steve Turre, Ted Curson, Joe Lee Wilson, Alicia Keys, The Sun Ra Arkestra, Cotton Club All Stars, and many others.
He is the founder of Cross-Cultural Connection, Inc.–a non-profit organization that promotes jazz culture, performance, and education. At William Penn, the annual “The Ray Blue Jazz Award” is given to a graduating senior in Ray Blue’s honor.
