Academic Policy for Transfer Credit
Policies relating to the acceptance of transfer credits are as follows:
1. All courses passed at another accredited degree granting institution will be accepted providing the overall grade point average for those courses is 2.0 or above. Only courses with a grade of “C-“ or above will transfer for those students with an overall grade point average of less than 2.0.
2. A.A. or A.S. degree graduates of accredited degree granting institutions and/or recognized by the State Department of Education in that state are considered as having completed all the Leadership Core requirements, with the exception of LDRS 290 Quaker Values and LDRS 390 Contemporary Leadership.
3. Course work from non-accredited colleges will be accepted based on an evaluation of individual courses.
4. William Penn follows a policy of course substitution rather than awarding specific hours in the Leadership Core and major and minor requirements.
5. Courses from other schools will not be recorded individually, but as total credits accepted from that educational institution.
6. No more than fifteen semester hours of correspondence courses will be counted toward the minimum 124 semester hour graduation requirement.
7. William Penn University recognizes that learning takes place in many different settings. William Penn uses the guides prepared by the American Council on Education (ACE) to award credit for learning in many corporate settings. In addition, William Penn offers students the opportunity to apply for college credit through assessment of a documented portfolio.
8. William Penn recommends students desiring credits for military experience to provide an official military transcript available from their service education office.
Students who transfer to William Penn University from another institution may be accepted without an official transcript; if this is the case, academic progress must be demonstrated through an unofficial transcript or other means. It is, however, the student’s responsibility to secure an official transcript from any previous institution. Transfer students have until the end of the first eight weeks of their first enrolled term to provide these official transcripts to William Penn University. At the end of this period, if official transcripts have not been received financial aid will be modified and academic credit will not be awarded for this prior work.
Requests for an exemption to this policy must be made to the Academic Council by a letter of explanation to the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies.
