Spencer Thury, Campus Minister

Spencer arrived at William Penn in July of 2005. He has been a Friends pastor for six years and has been a recorded Friends minister for three years. Spencer's interest in college life has been developed thorough numerous evangelistic campaigns throughout the United States, sharing the love of God with college and career aged young people.

Spencer met his wife, Mary, while youth pastoring in Albia, Iowa, before attending Bible College. They were married in 1992 at 1st Church of the Open Bible in Ottumwa, Iowa. Spencer and Mary went on to the Eugene Bible College in Oregon for his education and while there developed street ministry teams and performed weekend ministry at the University of Oregon and outlying towns along the coast and the mountains.

Spencer majored in Bible and minored in Christian Education at Eugene Bible College. He served for six years as a Friends pastors at Riverside Friends church in Mason City, Iowa. While Spencer pastored at Riverside, his church was featured in the book by Jay Marshall out of Earlham School of Religion called: Where the wind blows: Vitality among Friends.

Spencer’s interests include playing many different types of musical instruments in many different styles, fishing, dating his wife, playing with his kids, reading, participating in and watching sports events. The writings of Richard Foster and Charles Spurgeon have been of particular interest and challenge to Spencer.

Mary Thury has a bachelor’s degree in business management and has been raising their children the last 12 years. The Thury family includes four young children: Elias, Lydia, Abigail, and Joanna.
