Bob Barnes, a native Oskaloosan and long-time member of the faculty at William Penn University, is the next guest lecturer for the ongoing Chautauqua lecture series. In February, Barnes took a three-week photo safari in Eastern Africa, including Kenya and Tanzania. He will share photographs of this experience in Ware Auditorium of the McGrew Fine Arts Center on Monday, September 29 at 7 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend.
“It was a trip of a lifetime,” Barnes said. “The colors and the variety of wildlife are beyond any expectation.”
At Penn, Barnes teaches photography, which has been a major interest in his life since elementary school. His photographic interests include sports, wildlife, travel and portrait photography. Barnes earned his bachelor’s degree at Central College and his master’s degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Arkansas. He has taught since 1961 when he became an assistant professor of chemistry at William Penn.
The Chautauqua series is in its fourth year, having been established by the Humanities Division to showcase Penn’s faculty and guest speakers. The lectures bring culture and learning of all kinds to the university and the Oskaloosa community. For more information about Chautauqua, contact Dr. Noel Stahle, chair of Humanities, at 673-1106.
