William Penn and Sodexho raise funds for tornado victims at benefit dinner
William Penn University and Sodexho Campus Services raised funds last week for victims of tornado damage that caused major devastation in Iowa last month. All proceeds will be given to Aplington-Parkersburg High School and the city of Attica.
Aplington-Parkersburg High School was considered a total loss and administrators will soon be preparing plans to build a new high school. During the 2008 – 2009 academic year high school classes will be held at the middle school. While much of the damage will be covered by insurance, some items will not be and funds raised for Aplington-Parkersburg High School will help with any uninsured costs. The tornado struck Parkersburg prior to the final week of classes at the high school which has an enrollment of approximately 240 students.
The city of Attica will also be given funds raised at the Benefit Dinner. Located in Marion County, Attica is approximately 25 miles away from Oskaloosa and was hit by a tornado that caused wide-spread destruction to many homes and businesses in the town. Bob Leonard, a reporter with KNIA Radio in Knoxville, told Radio Iowa it was difficult to spot any homes or businesses not impacted by the devastation.
Fareway, Hy Vee, Loffredo Fresh Produce and Sodexho Campus Services all made contributions to supply the food for the Benefit Dinner so that all proceeds raised could be given to the communities in need.
“William Penn University and Sodexho Campus Services were very pleased to assist the community of Oskaloosa in supporting our neighbors in Iowa who had suffered terrible damage through recent tornadoes,” said Vice President for Advancement Steven C. Noah.
