HLC annual meeting provides positive experience for Penn

Educators from William Penn University attending the 113th Annual Meeting of the Higher Learning Commission in Chicago this spring had the opportunity to present many educational tools before their colleagues from other institutions of higher education.
This year the HLC granted Penn a full 10-year re-accreditation, approval of the new Master of Business Leadership program and Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As part of establishing a nursing degree, the university is currently preparing a program proposal which, upon approval, will allow Penn to begin enrolling students.
William Penn’s accreditation report was selected to serve as part of a display of examples of exemplary reports for other colleges to view and learn from one another at the HLC meeting.
Dr. Greg Markko, assistant professor of political science and Penn’s North Central Association coordinator; and Pat McAdams, registrar and assistant professor of geology, discussed the report and accreditation process with other colleges at the Program to Evaluate and Advance Quality Self-Study Fair.
Also presenting on behalf of William Penn were Dr. Jobi Lawrence, English as a Second Language program director and assistant professor of education; and Dr. Pam Martin, chair of the education division. Their presentation was titled “Distance Education: Bridging the Equity Gap.”
According to Dr. Doug Zehr, professor of biology, many in attendance commented this particular presentation was one of the best at the entire conference.
“The HLC meeting was truly a positive experience for William Penn University, and we can all be proud,” Zehr said.
