Pennstock celebrates end of year, providers breather before finals

Students took a break in-between the last week of classes and finals week to kick back and relax at the university’s annual Pennstock event. This year’s Pennstock was “Gladiator Edition” where students participated in activities such as bouncy boxing, gladiator assault challenge and bungee run.

Students at William Penn University enjoyed the opportunity to kick back and have a good time on Friday, April 25, at Pennstock. The annual event sponsored by the university celebrates the last week of classes and gives students a break before gearing up for finals.
The theme for this year’s event was “Gladiator Edition.” A dunk tank, rock climbing wall, joust, bungee run, bouncy boxing, obstacle course, and gladiator assault challenge were included in the festivities. Additionally, music was provided by a disc jockey and prizes were awarded, such as a Wii Game System, two iPods, two MP3 players, two flat screen televisions, gift cards, a flat panel computer screen, refrigerator, microwave and many more.
Penn sophomore Janna Carson described this year’s Pennstock as a big success.
“The students really had a lot of fun, I think they liked the theme too. This year we really wanted to give more students a chance to win prizes,” Carson said.
Carson, who served as the public relations officer for Penn’s Student Government Association this year, said the organization  helped with some of the planning for the event, which began approximately four months ago. SGA also donated $2,000 for prizes and received around $1,000 in donations from community businesses Subway, Wal Mart, Breadaux, Bonanza, Pizza Hut and Smokey Row.
In addition to thanking the community businesses for their gifts, Carson also expressed appreciation for William Penn Student Activities Director Chad Rodgers.
“A special thanks needs to go to Chad for all he has done,” Carson said.
Rodgers, who estimated there were around 370 people in attendance, was also pleased with the event, despite the chilly weather that evening.
“A number of students came and told me it was the best Pennstock William Penn offered in the four years they have been here,” Rodgers said. “It felt great that the hard work of all of the volunteers was appreciated by those in attendance.”
Rodgers also expressed appreciation to the community businesses for their donations and to all of the volunteers who helped make Pennstock a success.
Penn students wrapped up finals on Wednesday, April 30, and graduation will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. in the Penn Activity Center. Classes for the fall 2008 semester will resume August 27.
