On Tuesday, September 14, William Penn University will host guest speaker Dr. Paul Finkelman, as he gives a special public talk on "The Alexander G. Clark Legacy: Iowa, Race & the Law." The lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the Chief Mahaska Room of the Atkins Memorial Union.
The Alexander G. Clark Project is a multi-faceted effort to preserve the legacy of the 19th Century national equal-rights pioneer. Included in this legacy are the Alexander G. Clark house and gravesite in Muscatine, Iowa. Dr. Finkelman will be the principal author of a National Historic Landmark Nomination for Clark’s residence, to be submitted to the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. An accomplished speaker and author, Dr. Finkelman is the the President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy at Albany Law School (New York). He specializes in American legal and constitutional history, race and the law and has authored more than 150 scholarly articles and more than 25 books.
