Objectives
- Provide students the proper balance of theory and practice in the contemporary business setting.

Curriculum
INTR 3003 Orientation to Business Administration (2 Credits, 3 Weeks)
Introduces the adult learning model to students entering their major field of study. Focuses on the role of the team in the academic and workplace environment. Discusses group and communication skills needed for success in the field of business administration and prepares students to be successful in the CWA fast track model.
BUSI 3472 Business Ethics for Managers* (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Examines ethical challenges in business in view of the major ethical and religious theories of moral behavior. The core of this course, applied ethics, challenges students to examine their own moral standards. Quaker ethics and the Quaker traditions are included.
*This course is required for all graduates of William Penn University.
LDRS 1052 Computer Technology (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Provides the opportunity to practice and apply intermediate and advanced computer concepts, terminology, and skills applicable in today's workplace. Students will discuss critical issues in computer usage, including ethical practices and use of technology in various fields. Students who enter the course with basic skills will complete advanced projects integrating Microsoft applications of their choice.
ENGL 3012 Technical Writing and Research (4 Credits, 7 Weeks)
Reviews research and documentation skills needed in the business and academic setting. Through hands-on experience gained from searching online information sources, this course introduces document design, technical reports, instructional manuals, newsletters, marketing pieces and writing in the Internet environment.
BUSI 3581 Managerial Communication (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Develops the technical writing and presentation skills of adults in organizational settings. Students learn and apply technical writing, collaborative writing, and presentation skills through individual and group assignments. Skills in writing business reports, business proposals, and other technical writing strategies are incorporated in a major team writing project which includes a formal business presentation.
BUSI 3360 Human Resource Management (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Provides an overview of best practices and fundamentals of human resource management and its role in today's organizations. Emphasis is placed on understanding and implementing the best practices for organizational effectiveness. This course also reviews current human resource management techniques. Leadership, strategic planning, benchmarking, dealing with difficult people and conflict resolution are discussed. Students are also provided information about human resource management innovators and
management philosophies.
BUSI 3121 Business Law for Managers (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Gives an overview of the commercial law system in the United States with special attention to the impact of laws on business decision makers. Students focus on the law as it relates to contracts, sales, the uniform commercial code, personnel, and other contemporary legal issues.
LDRS 3031 Statistical Methods for Business I (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Offers adult learners exposure to the statistical principles and procedures for describing data, sampling and estimation, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression. Focus is on the basic theories of statistical analysis used in the world of business.
LDRS 3032 Statistical Methods for Business II (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Extension of LDRS 3031 or equivalent, emphasizing business applications in statistics such as quality control/improvement, forecasting, graphic tools/displays, time series, data maps/GIS, and decision theory.
ECON 3133 Microeconomics (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Introduces microeconomic theory as it relates to managerial decision making. Features the study of supply and demand for the individual and the firm. Understanding of consumer behavior and markets are fundamental learning outcomes.
ECON 3134 Macroeconomics (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Introduces macroeconomic theory as it relates to managerial decision-making. Issues presented include GNP, CPI, unemployment and inflation. The effects of fiscal policy, monetary policy and international trade are also considered as influences in the modern global economy.
BUSI 3341 Marketing for Managers (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Identifies and evaluates the ways in which businesses plan, price and promote their goods and services. Market research, forecasting, logistics planning, inventory control, and product delivery are also discussed as elements of marketing management.
BUSI 3828 Organizational Management (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Exposes adult learners to theoretical approaches and practical models and paradigms of management theory. Emphasis is on gaining an appreciation of the structures and systems that support management of organizations. Topics include personnel systems, the concept of stakeholders, strategic planning, communication in the workplace, diversity and managing in the global environment. Management skills relating to planning, organizing, leading, and controlling will be examined.
BUSI 3033 Financial Accounting (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Introduces concepts of financial accounting including accounting theory, accounts, transactions and the concepts of revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, and shareholder's equity. Focus is on content and understanding of financial statements and cash flows.
BUSI 3034 Managerial Accounting (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Exposes adult learners to concepts of managerial accounting including job and process cost systems, variance analysis, product pricing, and differential analysis. Focus is on use of accounting information to help analyze and manage in today's business environment.
BUSI 3381 Financial Management I (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Exposes adult learners to concepts of financial management including ratio analysis, operating and financial leverage, current asset management, and financial statement analysis. Focus is on using financial accounting information to develop analysis to understand business financial performance.
BUSI 3382 Financial Management II (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Extension of BUSI 3381 or equivalent, including concepts of time value of money, cost of capital, capital budgeting, bond and stock financing, and dividend policy. Focus is on the critical role of finance at all levels of business management.
LDRS 3901 Contemporary Business Leadership (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Investigates principles and theories of effective leadership. The concepts of leadership in business are analyzed by examining the work of business leaders throughout history. Students learn selfevaluation techniques to assess their individual strengths and weaknesses as leaders in business and in their communities.
BUSI 4601 Business Strategy (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Considers the total business organization and its various environments from the viewpoint of top management. Students study the development of objectives, strategies and structures of a wide range of enterprises. Case studies augment learning outcomes.
BUSI 4990 Business Capstone Seminar (3 Credits, 5 Weeks)
Requires application of knowledge and experiences from all previous coursework. Students participating in teams competing in an online computer-based business simulation game. Performance criteria include market share, pricing strategy, manufacturing cost and quality control, profitability and return on equity. Each adult learner prepares a final paper of personal reflections on his/her educational experience with the College for Working Adults.
