Interested in English?
Whether you love literature, creative writing or are an education major looking for an English endorsement, William Penn offers you the classes you need. The English emphasis provides a liberal arts focus through close study of literature as an expression of the human condition. You can explore various genres of literature and try your hand at creative writing and writing for publication. You can even apply for a Humanities scholarship (Campus media scholarship), which will not only provide you with invaluable real-world writing experience, but will also make a great addition to your resume and impress future employers or graduate school review committees.
If you are a budding creative writer, you will find Penn a very supportive environment for you to develop your craft. Penn 's literary magazine, Penn & Ink, showcases student, faculty and staff writing in all genres. Creative Ink, Penn's forum for writers, offers another opportunity for you to showcase your talent. It has an open mike format which allows for the sharing of student and faculty writing. It meets at different venues, including local coffee houses.
Whether you choose the English emphasis because you want to go on to graduate school, obtain your English teaching endorsement, or develop your writing and reading skills for creative or personal development, be assured that the English faculty here at WPU is dedicated to helping you succeed!
