Thank you for your interest in the Humanities program at William Penn University. Our division is concerned with more than the traditional Humanities curriculum of languages, literature, philosophy and history; students who enroll in Humanities courses at William Penn will gain practical, hands-on experience as well. After all, that’s what the word “humanities” denotes: real-world experience.

Students may choose one of five emphases in the Humanities Division: Digital Broadcast Studies, English, Fine Arts, Journalism, or Public Relations.

The Digital Broadcast Studies emphasis will prepare students for positions in the electronic media including, but not liminted to, broadcast and non-broadcast facilities in terms of audio production, television production, non-broadcast video applications, media managment, and related fields.

The English emphasis presents a liberal arts focus through a close study of literature, language, and composition. Students can explore their artistic side by taking a creative writing class. An English endorsement for those who want to teach English at the secondary level is also available.

The Journalism/Electronic Media emphasis provides a focus on broad media principles and writing, with opportunities for a practicum or internship experience. Many of our Journalism students write for the campus newspaper or yearbook, while others enjoy working as disc jockeys for the campus radio station.

The Public Relations emphasis prepares students for a career in corporate or institutional settings. Most Public Relations students at Penn choose to work as interns for local agencies and businesses, wherein they not only get hands-on experience, such as producing a television commercial or writing an article for a newsletter, but also earn credit hours toward courses.

The Fine Arts emphasis enables students to express their creative side through music, theater, or art. Students can perform in the Penn choral and/or instrumental groups, or, as part of the Theatre Troupe, act in plays. Art students can contribute drawings or photographs to the campus literary magazine, or exhibit their works in the Foyer Gallery of the Wilcox Library.

Penn offers participation scholarships in music, theatre, and journalism. This is a great opportunity for you to receive up to $3000 in financial aid assistance while doing something you really enjoy.
