Majors/Minors
Three majors are available in the Applied Technology Division along with various minors and several areas of emphasis.
Applied Computer Science Major
Within the Applied Computer Science major, you may choose from an emphasis in Business, Engineering, Communications or Mathematics. Minors are available in related areas such as Business, Industrial Technology, Mathematics, and Physics—or in a different area of study such as Psychology. A secondary teaching certificate in Mathematics is also available.
Our graduates are in top-paying positions all over the country. They're working as software engineers and designers, developers or testers, MIS officers, network administrators, information technology specialists, teachers or trainers, technical writers, system analysts, website designers . . . the opportunities are endless, and you can be a part of it.
Industrial Technology & Mechanical Engineering Majors
You may major in Industrial Technology or Mechanical Engineering at William Penn University. And when you're ready to graduate, your William Penn University degree will open many doors. The jobs are waiting . . . many of our graduates are offered positions with the companies where they worked as an intern. Recent graduates are working in industry, agriculture, education, management, construction, or own companies of their own.
If your interest lies in industrial technology, you may choose from one of four emphases:
-
Industrial Management combines an industrial technology and business administration with a strong emphasis in applied computer science. Graduates are prepared for management careers in technology-related fields.
-
Technical provides a strong "hands-on" foundation in manufacturing, energy and power, graphic communications, and construction technologies, along with mathematics and applied computer science. Graduates will be ready for careers demanding a high level of technical ability and skill.
-
Engineering Technology includes a strong focus on engineering, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and applied computer science, in addition to the industrial technology foundation. Graduates apply technology to the field of engineering through calculations, theory, and hands-on machine operation.
-
William Penn University is the only private, four-year liberal arts institution in Iowa to combine a Professional Educational Program with a major in industrial technology. Graduates of this state-certified program are qualified to teach industrial technology in grades 7-12.
As a mechanical engineering student, you will attend William Penn for three years studying mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, engineering, economics, writing, and completing the leadership core program. You will then spend two years attending Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, earning both a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering and a B.A. degree from Penn.
